Recap: July Lunch and Learn — PolicyPaste Upgrades, One-Click License Lookups, and a Sneak Peek at Trailhead

Our second monthly Lunch and Learn is in the books! On July 8th, Jacqueline from our Customer Success team packed thirty minutes with practical, use-it-today walkthroughs — plus a surprise early access announcement at the end that had the chat buzzing.
If you missed it, the recording and slides went out to everyone who registered. Here's everything we covered.
PolicyPaste: Broader Coverage and a Faster Way to Paste
Quick refresher for anyone new to it: PolicyPaste is our Chrome extension (it works on Edge, too) that takes verified data from your Canopy Connect submissions and pastes it directly into online forms — including carrier rating applications — so your team never has to retype prospect details field by field. It's available on the Elevate, Peak, and Summit plans.
Two updates landed in the latest release:
Expanded form coverage. This one closes a lot of the gaps agents were running into. PolicyPaste now handles additional named insureds, split address fields, dynamic fields that only appear after you make a selection, radio buttons, and carrier pop-up windows.
A faster paste shortcut. Instead of clicking the extension button every time, just hit Alt+Shift+P on a PC or Control+Shift+P on a Mac. A small change that adds up fast on high-volume quoting days.
Jacqueline's live demo covered a few workflows worth knowing:
- The basics: Open a form, click the PolicyPaste extension, select the submission you want, and hit Paste Selected. Every field populates instantly — dropdowns and radio buttons included.
- Pop-up carrier windows: If a rating application opens in a pop-up where you can't reach your extension bar, just right-click anywhere on the page. PolicyPaste appears in the menu and works exactly the same way.
- Multiple drivers and vehicles: If a submission has more than one driver or vehicle, use the Paste button next to the specific driver or vehicle you want to bring in.
- Custom field mapping: If a field doesn't paste correctly, it usually means we haven't mapped that field on that particular site yet, or the site names it differently than we do. The fix takes seconds: select your submission, click the settings icon in the extension, choose the data point (say, Contact → Email), click Map Field, and click the field on the page. PolicyPaste remembers your mapping for that website going forward.
If you tried PolicyPaste before and it didn't work on a particular site, custom mapping is your answer — try it again.
Fetch a Driver's License Without Leaving the Submission
You no longer have to leave a submission to look up a missing driver's license number. Previously, you'd navigate to Enrich Data in the left menu, enter the driver's name, date of birth, and address, and search. Now there's a Fetch Driver's License button right inside the submission, next to any driver whose license number is missing. One click, a moment to load, and the number appears in place.
A few things to know:
- This is part of our enrichment add-ons — included on the Peak and Summit plans, and available on Elevate for an additional fee.
- If the button appears grayed out, you just need to accept the Innovator terms of service first. Head to Settings → Enrichment, review the terms, check the agreement box, and save. The button activates immediately.
- Match rates vary by state. A few states, like Connecticut and New York, have stricter privacy rules that limit availability. If a lookup comes back empty, it's very likely a state restriction, not a bug.
The Phone Shortcut Trick: Your Link, Three Letters Away
This one was an audience participation moment. Jacqueline had everyone grab their phones and set it up live. If you send your Canopy Connect link from your phone, this eliminates copying and pasting forever.
The setup takes about a minute:
- Open Settings on your phone, then go to General (iPhone) or General Management (Android).
- Tap Keyboard (or Samsung Keyboard Settings on Android).
- Tap Text Replacement on iPhone or Text Shortcuts on Android.
- Tap the plus button, enter your Canopy Connect link as the phrase, and choose a short string as your shortcut — something like "canopy" works great.
- Save, and you're done.
Now whenever you type your shortcut, it automatically expands into your full Canopy Connect link—in texts, emails, social media, anywhere you type on your phone.
Sneak Peek: Early Access to Trailhead
Jacqueline saved a surprise for the end: early access to a brand-new feature called Trailhead, rolling out now to all SMB customers on Elevate, Peak, and Summit. (Enterprise customers: your Canopy Connect contact will be reaching out about access.)
Here's the easiest way to understand it. Your intake link today is like a blank door. A prospect clicks and lands straight on a form, with no context about who they're talking to. Trailhead puts a sign on that door. Before a prospect shares anything, they see your name, your photo, and your contact information, or your agency's branding, if you prefer. Then they move into the exact same sharing options you've already set up. Same intake, but with a real first impression in front of it instead of a cold, anonymous page.
Two steps to start using it today:
- Build your profile. Go to Settings → Profile and add your name, photo, title, phone, website, and social links. This is what populates your agent view.
- Turn it on. Go to the Links page, click the pencil icon on any link, and scroll to the new Trailhead section at the bottom. Choose Agent View to lead with your personal information or Company View to lead with your agency's branding.
One more perk: if you work with referral partners, they can share your Trailhead link directly with their clients, and those clients land already knowing who you are.
Trailhead is live on accounts now, and a full walkthrough video went out in the post-webinar email. And here's the big news for next month: our August 12th session will be a complete Trailhead deep dive.
FAQ: Questions from the Session
Is there a direct support phone number? We don't have a phone hotline, but we have something just as fast: live chat. Click the blue support button in the bottom right corner of your dashboard to message our team. And to be clear — it's a real, live person on the other end, not a bot. Our support team is quick and genuinely helpful.
I need to make an account change and couldn't resolve it through chat. What now? Our team can reach out to you directly by email to get it sorted. If you ever hit a wall in chat, mention it and we'll follow up personally.
Where do I turn on Trailhead in the dashboard? Populate your profile first under Settings → Profile. Then go to the Links page, click the pencil icon to customize any link, and scroll all the way down to the Trailhead section to enable it.
Where do I find the PolicyPaste extension? A few ways. If you're an admin, go to Integrations in the bottom left of your dashboard, find PolicyPaste, and click View Integration to reach the download page. Anyone can also find the download link in our help center, or simply Google "Canopy Connect Policy Paste" — it's the first result.
Mark Your Calendar: August 12th
The next Lunch and Learn is Wednesday, August 12th at 1:00 PM Eastern, and it's the one a lot of you have been waiting for: a full deep dive into Trailhead.
As always, the recording and slides go out to everyone who registers, and our support team is one blue button away if questions come up between sessions. See you in August!
